Darren Waters takes a trip with his photographer father to find out how smartphone cameras stack up against the type of kit the pros use.

The best camera, the saying goes, is the one you have with you. And it’s probably a safe bet that camera is your mobile phone.

The introduction of the smartphone 10 years ago kickstarted a revolution in digital photography, and re-awakened our love affair with the camera.

#Rockguitar - #Blues Licks

It’s this type of knowledge that allows us to understand how our favourite players have used influences to inform their own playing. There are very few truly original voices in modern music - only a tiny minority of which are guitarists. In blues and rock, the harmonies and rhythms are often quite simple, but what is amazing is how great players down the decades have manipulated this relatively simple musical language and articulated it in their own way.

Example of Rockblues with typical blues licks, European sound:

Rockguitar Phrasing From Rhythmic Or Melodic Motive

I call it the musical equivalent of a stomach virus: The notes just keep on running out with no end in sight. The same thing occurs when they advance and learn the extensions of the minor pentatonic and the modes. They know the notes and the connections very well, but it sounds like one big run-on sentence. Sometimes I'll see cover bands in which more experienced guitarists will do the same. In short, there is no phrasing.

#Blues Music And Slang - Explanation, History, Examples

Back when I was in junior high school in South Carolina, a transfer student from California joined our homeroom class. On his first day there, he announced -- for no apparent reason -- "Man, I'm jonesin' for something to eat!" Almost in unison, we turned to face him and shine the appraising light of our seventh-grade hive mind upon him. "Jonesin'? What the heck's he talking about?" So he explained it to us, we all acted like it was the craziest thing we'd ever heard, and promptly started using it as our own by lunchtime.
Example for Bluesrock, that sounds oh so European:

About #Popmusic And Rhythm - History, Examples, Technics

Pop music is a genre of popular music that originated in its modern form in the United States and United Kingdom during the mid-1950s. The terms "popular music" and "pop music" are often used interchangeably, although the former describes all music that is popular and includes many different styles. "Pop" and "rock" were roughly synonymous terms until the late 1960s, when they became increasingly differentiated from each other. Pop music, as a genre, is seen as existing and developing separately.

Through this work Zatarain and Gottehrer aim to kick-start a dialogue about female empowerment through music. Highlighting the bonds of friendship, sisterhood and the power of love between women, the result is a collection of utterly breathtaking tracks that you want to listen to over and over.

“It’s modern love and modern music for modern times,” says Zatarain. Gottehrer adds, “These classic songs are more than mere ‘covers.’ In a sense they are born again with new feeling and meaning as interpreted by these talented female vocalists.”.

Songwriting Tips #musicproduction #songwriting

What makes a song or melody heroic, romantic, sad, or uplifting?
Using a “creative brief” for our project, you will have an opportunity to create a custom piece of music the same way as many working composers do for film,TV and advertising every day! As a composer for film and TV, I’ll share with you some tricks I’ve learned along the way. Some prior knowledge of music and ability to record music for the final project is helpful. It's a short course, but very worthwhile. This class, which is the perfect addition to Eyal’s Mastering Metal Songwriting, will cover more songwriting ground – teaching you the basics of melodies, how to write them, place them and evaluate them.
