WoW (Words of wisdom the world is waiting for ;-) People in a hurry, but I lean back and enjoy the music. It's the sound that makes the mood, it's the sound - sometimes.

Today is the right day for doom-da-da-da. The right day for recording drums. I feel it.

I'm walking on the timeline, always the same speed. It's a narrow path and I cannot see the end.

Press releases - Articles

Building traffic for a brand, whether a storefront or online requires lots of work, dedication, and above all, writing.  Creating content is how you reach the masses, but knowing what to write for whom you are trying to attract can be very different.  Creating quality content is no good if you aren't directing it to, and in a manner that will allow the reader to digest and use it to the best of their ability.

1. Press releases should be written for writers or news media and outlets.  Think of it this way, your press release is a sales pitch, the idea is to get someone as much information as possible in the least amount of time and contain content that can in turn be re-written or broadcasted to the ultimate demographic of the project you are pushing.

2. Press releases should not be written for your demographic.  When writing a press release, you need to assume that the person you're sending it to has almost no knowledge of the content.  Write the press release so the content is easily digestible and understandable by a broad audience.

3. Articles are usually longer and contain more in-depth compared to a press release with the goal of attracting readers and can be used as purely informational, to sell, to suggest or to link to another article, but to drive traffic.  Unlike press releases, articles are written specifically for the target demographic that is to read them, so utilizing keywords and looking at current trends is that niche is essential.

4. Articles can be written to optimize search engines to get inbound traffic.  They can also be written to link to, or have links in-bound from other sites, unlike press releases which are once and done pieces.

5. Press releases are time sensitive.  They are used within a narrow window to make an announcement, draw attention and start a buzz, but they usually point to or reference an article, so in may ways they work together but are definitely different.

Before you start writing, look at who will be reading your work and what you want them to do with it, take from it or remember.  Writing articles usually involves more time and a longer thought processes, they tend not to be time sensitive and most are written with the intent on being archived on the Internet for years to come.  Creating a press release should be more focused on the objective, getting the reader to tell other people about the contents of the release.  Providing them with the tools, information and data they need to do this in an easily readable, no-nonsense manner will increase the chances they follow through with it.

15 Great Word Games

WoW (Words of wisdom the world is waiting for ;-)
Sometimes news in the papers can be interesting for writing lyrics. Not the big headlines, but the sidenotes, the short stories.

Always speak plain. "I love you too" can be understood "I love YouTube". Awkward in a cozy moment under the blanket.

Sleep is recharging, awake is retarding. And I feel good.

If you have money, you have a lot of friends. But how many of them will be with you when you get sucked down?

Press release - avoid these mistakes

Creating a press release for a campaign or assignment requires thought and preparation, without the core fundamentals your release may end up right in the trash folder of your recipients email.  A well-written press release can be an invaluable asset to your company and the success of the content within the release you're trying to help generate attention for.  Here are 7 mistakes most commonly made when writing a press release that you can easily avoid to become more successful at pushing your product, website or idea.
  1. Lack of proper research.Spend the time to read and subscribe to press releases not only in the niche you work within, but from some of the larger and more successful companies in the world.  Look to see how they are laid out, worded and put together and pick the best parts from each to incorporate into your own releases.
  2. Don't assume anything.Your reader may not know what it is they are getting, and since your goal is to have your reader generate buzz to their readers or media outlet, lay out the specifics for them.
  3. Don't belittle or talk down to anyone. While number 2 says to be specific with what you are writing, don't write in a condescending manner, which almost always ends in a delete from the reader.  Assume they are not a total idiot.
  4. Don't oversell your product or service. The purpose of a press release is to put it into the hands of those who have influence and a crowd to share it with.  They are not the ones who will be buying or using whatever is in the contents of your press release.  Don't try to make them the buyer, rather look at them as yourreseller and present the information in the same way you would teach a sales associate how to sell to a customer in a store.
  5. Don't over-write or bloat the release.A press release is not an article, it's meant to be informative and easily digestible; keep the fluff to a minimum and focus on the details that pertain to the service or product
  6. Do write a clever subject line.Log into your email and check the messages you have deleted but never opened.  Chances are the subject line didn't entice you to open it.  Be creative and to the point with the subject line, the difference here can be a success or total failure and most new press release writers skip the importance to this small but invaluable part of content delivery.
  7. Don't jump the gun with sending your release.Wait until you have all the facts, specifics and proper information for the contents within, then send it.  Don't send the release announcing a forthcoming release, which will break the trust and relationship with the readers you have.  You're better off sitting on a release for a few days then sending it out missing crucial information.
These simple mistakes can all be easily avoided, in turn you will have a higher success rate across the board, from emails being opened to media outlets picking up your content.  As with all writing, reread, proof and then read it again to ensure it flows smoothly and covers the exact message across that is needed for each assignment.
Don't forget to check out the rules of Press Releases on PressAbout to ensure your Press Releases get published.

Song Analysis: Baby Give Me One More Chance

Lyrics

One more chance!

I went to Vegas, the city of sin
Looking for a casino "Vienna", waltz and violin
Paint the town red, the croupier [gru:'pje:] said, I put a dollar on
Fortune favors fools and so I played on and on and on
Five drinks later I couldn't believe what I have won
A number ringing in my head, a final bet had to be done
And put it all on twentyone - and the fortune was gone

Baby give me one more chance
Baby give me one more chance
Ah, ah

I shlep myself to a drinking place, I didn't go too far
I turned my head to a red dressed girl hanging at the bar
My lips grazed on her ear: Baby, give me the groove
Ruefully [ru:ful] I bit my tongue just as I did spoke
Disgustedly she turned her head and wanted to move
I said: Sorry, it was only a smutty joke

Baby give me one more chance
Ah, ah
Baby give me one more chance
I took her home into my room, we really had a lot of fun
There were so many dirty games and things to be done
She was soft, she was smart, she was a class apart
I was feeling on top from the bottom of my heart
Sweat on the head, the games we played were way too hard
Finally too fast I finished up

Baby give me one more chance
Ah, ah
Baby give me one more chance
Ah, ah

The song is about a trip to Las Vegas. I wrote a letter to the mayor that Vegas needs a casinohotel Vienna with waltz and violins, with Strauss, Mozart, Beethoven and Sissi. I never received a reply, maybe the letter gone lost.

Here is the story of the song:

In the first verse I do what most people do in Vegas: I gamble. First I win, but with a final bid I loose all my money. I say to the croupier: "Baby give me one more chance!"
In the second verse I move to a bar where I chat up a lady. But as I whisper some crazy words into her ear, too crazy for her, she wants to move. I say:  "Baby give me one more chance!"
In verse three we are together and have a lot of fun. Too much fun it seems and I finish up too fast and so I say again: "Baby give me one more chance!"
That's the story. Is it a tragedy or comedy? I don't know. It is a story, not a description of a feeling or impressions.

All three verses are short stories themselves, I put them together to a bigger story. You can also say: the story has three episodes.

Behind the words

The rhyme form is changing during the song. Sometimes a-a, b-b then a-b-a-b. The first verse is one line longer than the others, because it is a introduction to the story. The first two lines rhyme on -in - sin and violin. But then the next five lines rhyme on the same ending. I wanted to express that I was so excited living this story, my words came out like a waterfall, I simply had to write them down. And it ends with the words "and the fortune was gone". No more rhyme on this ending, not only my money also the rhyme on this is gone. When I wrote this I found out that I had made it too long, one line longer than planned. But it fits and I adapted the music to these lyrics.

In the second verse there is a change in rhyme form. I rhyme a-a-b-c-b-c to express that I am a little confused. No wonder by this red dressed lady.
In verse three there is another speciality. The rhyme form is a-a-b-b-c-c, but the last rhyme is only a near rhyme. Rhyming "hard" on "up" sounds near - some may say "far" -, it isn't a clean rhyme, it is a break. I wanted to express that "finished up" breaks the story, the episode. "finished up" is short and a sudden, let's say unexpected, end of this episode is also expressed in words.

I like to play with words and that's what I also did in these lyrics.
"Fortune favors fools" is an aliteration, all words start with "f". I don't like repetitions, but with "I played on and on and on" I wanted to express the long time sitting doing nothing but gambling, a monotone pastime. And so it is ok for me to rhyme this line with the previous line on the word "on".

In verse three I do an inline rhyme: "She was soft, she was SMART, she was a class APART" with the following line ending on "heart". With "SWEAT on my HEAD" there is another inline rhyme in this verse. It sounds a little stressy, doesn't it. "The GAMes we PLAYed were WAY too hard" also sounds like an inline rhyme ending hard with the word "hard". I think that fits well. "The GAMes we PLAYed were WAY too hard", so "hard" is a hard stop.
"I was feeling on TOP from the BOTTOM of my heart" is a nice combination of opposites: Feeling on TOP from the BOTTOM of my heart.
So far about the lyrics.

Now to the music

I want to have a groovy music. Before I made up the sound I heard music from the south states, I call it Mississippi-sound, on the radio and I think you can hear that influence. Always that accentuation on syncopes. A nearly monotone background band in the first lines. But as the story progresses and gets a twist I want to express that in the music by accentuating the drums in the last two lines of the verse.
I have a little variation in the refrains sung. In the first refrain I have this "Ah ah" after line 2, in verse 2 I have it after line 1. And in verse 3 I have this "Ah-ah" in both lines. A little detail, a gag I put in the song when mixing.

The refrain "Baby give me one more chance" should contrast to the verse. The voice is singing a melody in the refrain while the verse is dominated by the rhythm and storytelling vocals.
There is another detail: In the verse and the refrain I sing a line, then there is a instrumental part except the last lines of the verse, where I continuously tell my story. That is because the episode of the verse comes to an end concluded by the refrain "Baby give me one more chance".

But I not always sing. The line "Sorry, it was only a smutty joke" is stressy spoken. That's what I would do in this situation when trying to hold back the lady from moving away.

I like the solo guitar playing a short intro at the beginning and returning in line 3 in the background by the words "Paint the town red, the croupier said" and then playing short solo parts between the lines. There is no guitarsolo instead of a sung verse in this song, that would have been too much guitar I think. The guitar is very shrill. In german the word also is "schrill". Is this a German based word or did the Germans take it from English?

But during production I found something missing. I played around with synthesizers and effects. Then I found a nice sound with echo-effects on it and so I put it in the song. Doesn't it sound great? A little like "Stop it, man!!!!"

There is a gag in the song: With the line "A number ringing in my head" I put a ringing bell in the background to express that ringing. First I took a telephone ringing, but that did not fit well. It should be a big bell clanging in my head like I had headache.

Now to the musicvideo

I thought if this is a story I tell, I simply sit down in a drinking place and tell the story to a friend or to the audience. Now it is a little boring just sitting there three minutes and sing the song. So I put in scenes supporting the story in wads of smoke. In Europe in many places smokers are banned, but in some drinking places there still are wads of smoke. Is this my thoughts or projections of words turned into pictures? I don't know. On the bottom line the story is also told by these movieclips and pictures.

And just like telling the story to a friend it is nearly a one-shot-video.

By the way, look at these many bottles in the background. I did not drink that all for the videoshot, but it's real wine- and liqueur bottles.

Individuality? Some call it attitude. I call it personality.

Every second we receive a billion impressions and filter most of it out. What genius thing a brain is. Although I cannot see or feel or taste or hear it.

Now I'm gonna put on a rock cd and turn on loud. Then I try to stand still. Only to know if I can.

Kunstmue Festival 2012 in Bad Goisern

20 Words with More Than One Spelling

WoW (Words of wisdom the world is waiting for ;-) When I hear people talking in a language I don't understand I alwas wonder what fault they find with me.

I lost my lottery ticket. I am sure I would have won the grand prize. This dream is more than a blank lottery ticket.

Who has the beer?

He got the beer, I saw it through my window. Secretly he took it away from the fridge. The whole box. Why? Because alcohol is a drug and should be removed? Who is that man? Suspicious. Let us hope, he will not drink and drive. Is it a present and if for whom is it? Did he took all beer or did he leave a few bottles? The car is big enough to carry more. I did not see his face to face the facts. Is he from town or a stranger passing through?  The bottles are not empty, I can see the bottle tops. So he will not go to a bottle bank.

Whom is he talking to on his mobile? Did he call somebody on his mobile or was he called? Maybe he wants to tell somebody "I got it!". If he is going to a party he probably will stay overnight. I don't think that he will not drink the beer and so he probably will not drive home by car. Are there ladies at the party? If so why does he only have beer and no chocolate or flowers? Only beer, typical for a men's party. Today there is no football match on tv. Is it a stag party?

Why is he driving alone to a stag party? He looks unmarried. Why did he not marry? Too much drinking beer? For an unmarried man he drives a very big car. Maybe he is a craftsman or delivery man. But there is no company logo on the car. The car must be his private car. If you are a do-it-yourselfer you need such a big car. Or is he a sportsman? There are no signs of transporting tools and materials on the car. I think he is a sportsman. But why is a sportsman going to a beer drinker's party?

There is something strange going on in the neighbourhood...

Whereever you look there are hundred stories behind
